Privacy Policy for Knitting Workshop

Knitting Workshop ("the App") is an iOS application that allows users to create, edit, manage, and share knitting patterns. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and what rights you have.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Sign in with Apple
When you sign in to the App using Sign in with Apple, we collect:
- Apple User ID: A unique, anonymous identifier provided by Apple
- Name: Your first and last name (if you choose to share it)
- Email: Your email address (if you choose to share it)
This data is used for:
- User authentication and account management
- Syncing your data across devices via iCloud
- Managing your premium subscription
- Creating your community profile (display name only)
1.2 User Content
The App collects and stores:
- Knitting Patterns: Your created schemas, including symbols, dimensions, and metadata
- Community Projects: Patterns you choose to publish to the community (optional)
- Comments: Text comments you leave on community projects (optional)
1.3 Usage Data
When you interact with the community features, we collect:
- Project Views: Anonymous tracking of unique project views
- Likes: Projects you like (linked to your user ID)
- Downloads: Count of patterns you download from community
1.4 Purchase Information
- Subscription Status: Whether you have an active premium subscription
- Transaction History: Managed by Apple through StoreKit
Note: We do not see or store your payment card information. All payments are processed by Apple.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 App Functionality
- Authenticate users and maintain login sessions
- Store and sync your knitting patterns
- Enable community features (publishing, viewing, liking projects)
- Manage premium subscription access
2.2 Product Improvement
- Analyze usage patterns to improve app features (anonymous)
- Monitor community content for moderation purposes
- Track subscription metrics for business analytics
2.3 We Do NOT Use Your Data For
- Advertising or marketing to third parties
- Selling or sharing with third parties
- Tracking your behavior across other apps or websites
- Creating advertising profiles
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
- Device: Your projects are stored locally on your iPhone/iPad in JSON format
- Encryption: Device-level encryption (iOS Keychain where applicable)
3.2 iCloud Key-Value Storage
- What's stored: User name, email, registration date
- Purpose: Persist data across app reinstalls and device changes
- Access: Only accessible by you through your Apple ID
- Managed by: Apple (covered by Apple's Privacy Policy)
3.3 Firebase/Firestore
- What's stored: Community profiles, published projects, likes, views, comments
- Location: Google Cloud servers (Firebase)
- Security: Access controlled through Firebase Security Rules
- Anonymous Auth: We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication (no personal data sent)
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
4.1 Third-Party Services We Use
Apple Services
Google Firebase/Firestore
- Purpose: Cloud database for community features
- Data stored: User profiles, published projects, interactions
- Privacy Policy: Firebase Privacy Policy
4.2 We Do NOT Share Data With
- Advertising networks
- Analytics companies (beyond Firebase)
- Data brokers
- Any other third parties for marketing purposes
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Access Your Data
- All your projects are visible in the App
- Community profile visible in Settings → Profile
- Request data export by contacting us
5.2 Delete Your Data
You have the right to delete your data at any time:
Full Account Deletion:
- Open App → Settings → Profile
- Tap "Delete Account"
- Confirm deletion
What gets deleted:
- All local projects and data
- Firebase community profile
- Published projects
- Likes and comments
- iCloud synced data (via Apple ID settings)
Important: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Your published projects will be removed from the community. Active subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple.
Partial Deletion:
- Sign Out: Keeps local data, removes cloud sync
- Delete App: Removes local data, keeps iCloud data
- Unpublish Projects: Remove specific projects from community
5.3 Manage iCloud Data
- Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Knitting Workshop
5.4 Cancel Subscription
- Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Knitting Workshop → Cancel Subscription
6. Data Retention
- Active Users: Data retained while you use the app
- Inactive Users: Firebase data may be automatically cleaned after extended inactivity
- Deleted Accounts: Data permanently deleted within 30 days
- Subscription Data: Retained by Apple per their policies
7. Children's Privacy
The App is safe for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
8. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and stored on servers located outside your country of residence:
- Firebase: Google Cloud servers (various locations)
- iCloud: Apple data centers worldwide
These transfers are necessary to provide the App's functionality and are protected by appropriate safeguards.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending an in-app notification for material changes
Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
